Bay Leaf or Laurel Leaf is used fresh or dried bay in cooking for their distinctive flavour and fragrance. The leaves should be removed from the cooked food before eating. The leaves are often used to flavour soups, stews, braises and pâtés in many countries. The fresh leaves are very mild and do not develop their full flavour until several weeks after picking and drying.
Description
The Bay tree is an evergreen aromatic tree or large shrub with green smooth leaves. It is native to the Mediterranean region of Europe and is used as bay leaf for seasoning in cooking. Bay laurel, sweet bay, true laurel, Grecian laurel, or simply laurel. Laurus Nobilis figures prominently in classical Greco-Roman culture.
